By means of extended cooperation between the EU Member States in the Baltic Sea region, EUSBSR helps tackle a number of the common challenges faced by the countries in the region, including pollution of the Baltic Sea, imbalanced growth, a lack of infrastructure in parts of the region, etc.
The Danish Maritime Authority coordinates the Policy Area on Clean Shipping (PA Ship) and the Policy Area on Maritime Safety and Security (PA Safe) on behalf of the EU countries around the Baltic Sea. The Danish Maritime Authority coordinates the Policy Area on Maritime Safety and Security in cooperation with Finland.
International Steering Committees have been established consisting of maritime authorities, universities, project makers, regional organisations as well as the European Commission. The Danish Maritime Authority assists the Steering Committees in coordinating the work in each of these areas and selecting new Flagships.
Flagship under the EUSBSR enjoy, inter alia, political awareness during the project work, can get assistance for acquiring external financing and have the possibility of demonstrating their results and thus influence the regional policy dialogue. This contributes to ensuring that the Flagships' results are used in practice.
The work with PA Safe and PA Ship is co-funded by the Interreg Baltic Sea Region Programme.
