Maersk Line has chosen the Danish flag for LAURA MÆRSK, which is currently docked in Copenhagen after its maiden voyage on green methanol. The container ship is a milestone in the development of climate neutral shipping.

Laura Mærsk was built in South Korea and is the world's first container ship capable of sailing on green methanol. The 172-meter-long vessel is now being deployed on a fixed route in the Baltic Sea.

Approval for a ship to use methanol as a fuel falls outside conventional regulations. Therefore, it has required effective collaboration – between Denmark as the flag state, the classification society, and Mærsk – to find solutions to obtain the necessary approvals.

The Danish Maritime Authority welcomes Laura Mærsk ship under the Danish flag.
