Recognition of foreign certificates for recreational sailing
The area of recreational sailing and the related certificates are not harmonized, e.g., within Scandinavia or the EU, which means there are no applicable rules for mutual recognition of the respective countries' issued certificates for recreational sailing.
Denmark is not part of international certification schemes for recreational sailing, such as ICC and RYA.
Can I sail in Denmark with a foreign certificate?
In principle, you are allowed to sail in Danish waters with your foreign recreational sailing certificate, as long as you are sailing a recreational vessel that is registered in a country where your certificate is recognized.
If you own or plan to purchase a Danish-registered recreational vessel that requires a certificate, you must have a Danish certificate for recreational sailing.
You can have your foreign recreational sailing certificate assessed by one of our approved providers. If your skills meet the requirements for a Danish certificate, the provider will be able to issue a certificate or report an exam that allows you to apply for the issuance of a certificate from the Danish Maritime Authority.
Can I rent a boat in Denmark?

Therefore, you cannot rent a recreational vessel in Denmark that requires a certificate with your foreign recreational sailing certificate.
