The Danish Maritime Authority's deputy director Rikke Wetter Olufsen represented Denmark during the 17th ReCAAP Governing Council Meeting held in Singapore this week.

During the meeting, representatives from the 21 member states discussed how to strengthen regional cooperation to combat piracy and armed robbery in Asia.

In 2022, 83 incidents of armed robbery and 1 piracy incident were reported in Asian waters, which is a 2% increase compared to 2021 and underlines the need for continued strong cooperation to tackle such incidents. This includes knowledge sharing on risk assessments, protective measures and procedures for protection against piracy and armed robbery.

ReCAAP works intensively with the reported data and provides detailed incident overviews as well as the latest trends on maritime crime.

The Danish Maritime Authority welcomes ReCAAP's great work and looks forward to continued cooperation with the entire Secretariat and all member states.
