The project on digital certificates was carried out when MUMBAI MAERSK sailed from Europe to Asia, with departure from Aarhus, Denmark.
During the voyage, the ship called ports in Germany, Morocco, Singapore, China and South Korea, where data and experience on the use of digital certificates were collected, i.e. how the digital certificates can be utilized during port state control.
The ship and seafarers carried their valid physical certificates, but the project aimed to and succesfully proved that digital certificates are faster, simpler and safer for seafarers, shipping companies and authorities.
This result and the experience gained paved the way for the digitization journey of DMA in the years following the project.
