IMO has elected a new Secretary-General

IMO's Council has just elected the new Secretary-General of the Organisation. The choice fell on Mr. Arsenio Antonio Dominguez Velasco of the Republic of Panama, who will take over from Mr. Kitack Lim of the Republic of Korea when he steps down at the end of the year.

The Director General of the Danish Maritime Authority, Andreas Nordseth:

We send our sincere congratulations to Mr. Arsenio Dominguez. The maritime world is facing a historic challenge in becoming climate-neutral in the coming years, and IMO plays the lead role in this. At the same time, new technology is coming in to the maritime industry at an increasing pace and we need to develop the right rules for this in IMO. We look forward to collaborating on this with Mr. Arsenio Dominguez at the helm when he takes office at the beginning of the year.
