The conference, held in Mombasa, focused on the upcoming climate negotiations at the International Maritime Organization (IMO). Maritime authorities and experts from across Africa participated to discuss how the continent can contribute to and benefit from the green transition in the shipping industry. During the conference, participants identified a range of proposals for regional initiatives and concrete recommendations to support a more sustainable maritime sector.
The conference marked the beginning of Denmark and Kenya’s maritime strategic sector cooperation, which covers maritime education and training, port and flag state control, the green transition of shipping, and marine spatial planning.
The Danish Maritime Authority looks forward to continuing and expanding its strong collaboration with Kenya in these key areas.
