Shipping companies must submit their SSA (Ship Security Assessment) and SSP (Ship Security Plan) to the Danish Maritime Authority for approval. The approval is based on an assessment of whether the plans meet Regulation 725/2004.
The SSA and SSP should be sent to the Danish Maritime Authority in two envelopes and as registered mail. Alternatively, a USB key may also be sent in two envelopes. This USB key must be password-protected, with the password sent via a separate medium.
The SSA and SSP can also be handled online, provided the plan is protected (via password), and the password is sent separately.
The Danish Maritime Authority reviews the content to verify that it meets the requirements of the ISPS Code.
Once the SSP is approved, you will receive an approval letter from the Danish Maritime Authority along with the stamped index indicating approval.
ISPS Inspection
All ships must have an ISSC certificate, valid for up to 5 years, with two periodic inspections within this period. Changes and approvals to the SSP and SSA may necessitate an ISPS inspection. This inspection aims to ensure that ships comply with the standards and requirements set out in the ISPS Code.
The inspection itself is conducted in accordance with Appendix 2.8 of the Guide to Maritime Security and the ISPS Code, and after the inspection, the Danish Maritime Authority will issue a report that:
- Describes the inspection results
- Identifies any deficiencies or areas needing improvement
- Provides instructions for any necessary corrective actions
- Issues relevant ISPS certificates, provided the above requirements are met
You can read more about SSA and SSP in the Danish Maritime Authority’s RSO Circular No. 007 ISPS and SSAS.
